“Community Conversations: Building Bridges at Santa Clara University”
The Campus Climate Survey uncovered a need to develop and support opportunities for honest, open and respectful engagement about difficult topics and across differences, and to create and sustain a community of belonging. In response, the Office for Diversity and Inclusion, Office of the Provost, and Campus Climate Study Follow-up Team are co-sponsoring “Community Conversations,” a monthly series of opportunities for faculty, staff, students, and administrators to connect with each other in structured but informal dialogue. We encourage you to join these conversations!
Community Conversations will be held on the first Tuesday of each month from 12:15 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. and the topics will vary. The first meeting, on October 1, focused on the question, “How Can We Communicate Across Differences and Look for Common Ground?” Over a light lunch, about 40 community members including staff, faculty, students, and administrators from across the university engaged in lively and positive guided conversations. Participants made new connections and left appreciative of others’ positive qualities, inspired to learn more about other parts of SCU, interested in building bridges at SCU, and motivated to bring more people into future dialogue.
