What is the program for the Commencement?

Graduates and their four (4) guests will process through Santa Clara University’s campus as they participate in a Commencement on Saturday, June 11. During this festive celebration, Class of 2022 graduates, in academic attire, will have their name read aloud, receive their diploma cover, and have their photo taken by a professional photographer. The celebration will be broadcast live online to allow extended friends and family to view this portion of the Commencement experience.

Commencement processions will be held in accordance with state and county Covid-19 protocols at the time of the event.

How long is the processional route for the Commencement?

The processional route is less than .75 mile long. Please plan accordingly by wearing comfortable walking shoes.

How do I sign up to attend Commencement?

In early April, all students who meet the graduation requirements will receive an email from the Commencement Office with the link to register. 

How many tickets can I get for Commencement on Saturday, June 11?

Each student choosing to attend Commencement will be able to invite four (4) guests to join them in the procession. Children over the age of 2 are required to have a ticket.

When will I be able to register my guests?

In early April, all students who are eligible to graduate will receive an email from commencement@scu.edu with instructions on how to register up to four guests.

Is there a waiting list for additional tickets?

Unfortunately, we are only able to offer four guest tickets per graduate. As Commencement approaches, we recommend checking with other graduates to see if they have any tickets that have not been allocated to family/friends.

How do I get my admission ticket?

In April, eligible graduates will receive an email from commencement@scu.edu detailing how to register with MarchingOrder. Through MarchingOrder, graduates can access their GradPass which is required for the Commencement and will be scanned upon entry and prior to crossing the stage.

Also through MarchingOrder, graduates can register up to four guests to accompany them for Commencement. Graduates will be required to provide their guests’ name and email address. Guests will be able to access their tickets via email and will be required to have a screenshot/printed copy of their ticket to be admitted to the celebration.

Will there be photo opportunities for students?

Festive photo stations will be placed in numerous locations on campus and along the procession route so students and their families can capture their graduation moments. In addition, graduates will have their picture taken by a professional photographer as they cross the platform. These digital proofs will be emailed to graduates after the celebration with the opportunity to purchase photos.

Will I be able to invite guests to attend?

Only pre-registered guests can attend Commencement and the Grad Bash. Friends and family at home can watch live on our virtual platform.  

What precautions will you take for COVID-19?

Commencement processions will be held in accordance with state and county Covid-19 protocols at the time of the event.

Will I need academic attire to participate in the Commencement?

Academic attire is strongly encouraged to participate in Commencement. Academic attire - the cap & gown - is available for purchase online now through May 19, 2022.

What kind of bag can I bring with me to Commencement?

No large purses, backpacks or bags will be allowed at the celebration. All bags will be subject to search, and the University will be adhering to the NFL Clear Bag Policy during the in-person events. The policy states that each guest can bring one large clear bag – either a one-gallon Ziploc style bag or the 12" by 6" by 12" clear bag – plus a small clutch. The larger clear bag must be a standard 12" by 6" by 12" made of clear PVC vinyl and easily searched. A small clutch will be allowable as it provides privacy for small personal items, while also being easily searched.

Can I bring my pet to Commencement?

Only service animals are permitted to attend these events. 

Where should I park? 

More information will be provided as we get closer to the event.

What if I can’t attend Commencement? Will Commencement be available virtually?

The commencement stage crossing will be livestreamed. A recording of the celebration will be available on SCU’s YouTube channel following the event.
